Posted by Vivek Bhaskaran 06/29/2008 12:00 AM PDT
Need a multi-dimensional reputation system (pluggable) for IdeaScale users.

Here are some patterns:

Integrate IdeaScale with MS Project?
Posted by Vivek Bhaskaran 05/30/2008 12:00 AM PDT
Ok - this is an idea - Since there are too many project management tools out there we really cannot integrate with everyone. I am sure though all the web based tools will have a "Import MS Project" file feature.

So the idea would be to export all the ideas out in MS Project format...

Emailing users - who post ideas...  Completed
Posted by Vivek Bhaskaran 05/20/2008 12:00 AM PDT
Another request from a client:

Is there a way to email users who post an idea? (Right now, when you click on their name, no email address is provided.) There have been cases where a user submitted an idea on functionality that is already in the system. So rather than approve that idea, we just want to send a message thanking the user for the submission.

Header Text for categories in IdeaScale  Completed
Posted by Vivek Bhaskaran 05/20/2008 12:00 AM PDT
This came up in one of our conversations with our clients...

Is there a way to add text to the top of each IdeaScale category? We'd like to throw on some introductory text to help explain what that page is about.

Ad-hoc Query tool - Paging  Completed
Posted by vivek.bhaskaran 04/21/2008 12:00 AM PDT
Comment from client:

I am using the Ad-Hoc query tool to try to generate a list of everyone who took my survey who answer two questions a specific way. It only generates a list of the first 100 people who fall into the category, how do I access the only 150+ names?
Moderator Comments
We have implemented a paging system such that you should be able to browse through all the responses; 100 responses per page. This should be out on the production servers sometime this week. Thank you for the suggestion and please let us know what you think about the new paging system.

Captcha on New Topic Posts
Posted by vivek.bhaskaran 04/18/2008 12:00 AM PDT
To prevent SPAM we need to enable CAPTCHA (Human Verification) when users post new topics and ideas as well as comments.

It's a matter of time before the spammers catch up and start posting spam links.

Blog Integration (MetaWebLog API) - Post Updates to a Blog
Posted by vivek.bhaskaran 04/13/2008 12:00 AM PDT
We are also working on a blog integration.

The idea would be to use the API to post "This Week In IdeaScale" posts every week into your blog -- this way you drive information out and encourage to participate in the ideascale.

This way, users who are subscribed to the blog get weekly updates on what is going on in the IdeaScale on a weekly basis.

Single Signon for IdeaScale portal
Posted by vivek.bhaskaran 04/13/2008 12:00 AM PDT
What options do we have for single sign on (SSO)? We will be linking to this from our web application where folks will already be signed in (and under SSL) -- Can we have an integration option for Single Signon.

If we can enable SSO, then can we eliminate the header tabs: Awards, About Us, My Account?

Jason Eckenroth, Six88 Solutions, Inc was inquiring about this.
Moderator Comments
We are thinking about SSO using SAML. This is however in alpha and most likely not be released with the public beta launch in the next couple of weeks -- unless of course we get ton of users asking for this same feature!

We are currently testing SSO with our own IdeaScale portal (questionpro.ideascale.com) -- if you notice, the authentication is done by QuestionPro, and then redirected to ideascale. This is something custom we developed for ourselves (but it does use SAML) -- so -- we should be able to expose this API out so that authentication can be done by another external site.

If you have SSO needs, please comment on this topic on what technology you are using currently for SSO and if you are familiar with SAML etc.

Enable Moderation in IdeaScale  Completed
Posted by vivek.bhaskaran 04/07/2008 12:00 AM PDT
This came up in a conversation with one of our clients, and I thought I'll put it out here:

Currently, anyone (who is authenticated) can login to an IdeaScale portal and post comments, post ideas and suggestions. While this works for most of us, a couple of clients have raised the issue of SPAMMING and figuring out a way to enable "moderation" -- so that the topics and ideas that are posted are sane don;t get personal and non-constructive.

To solve the issue, new ideas and suggestions have to be approved by moderators before they appear in the postal.

Done - Choose the appropriate security level for your IdeaScale portal and the system will start/stop moderation.

I am sure this is interesting, but I am not sure if this is valuable to a majority of our clients -- If you are not into web marketing, it's unlikely users even understand the concepts of A/B Split testing and landing pages.

We'll obviously keep this topic open and see if we can get more feedback on this.

Jim - Question for you - If we get the data out in Microsoft Access - Can Crystal Reports natively connect to an MDB File?

That could be one way. We've had a couple of requests for exporting the data into MDB format...

We are mulling over the idea of having "hidden" questions. So any of the question-types can be marked as hidden - that should give you the ability to append data (through the hidden question) into the response.

Agreed - I think this issue has already been discussed here:

http://questionpro.ideascale.com/akira/dtd/216-393

On that note, We need a way to "merge" ideas. Good news - we own IdeaScale so we can add that functionality into IdeaScale ;)

We'll need to add that "Auto-Save" when you change tabs.

Hey Eric - Thanks for the note.

I think the _easiest_ way would be if you see a help file that has something incorrect, click on "Rate this Page" - and Give that a Low rating.

This will trigger an email (Of course using Action Alerts ;) - and our QA team gets notified and they can immediately fix the issue.

Hmm - Changing the vote may be a lot more complicated -- cause of the way we handle the technical details.

But - having a visual indicator of how you voted should be really easy.

How about we enhance the Survey Outline page to allow for editing (the items that are common) across multiple questions.

See screenshot below:

http://screencast.com/t/6u4ldjOgMQ

I think that will solve the issue of both allowing to edit all questions as well as allowing to edit a subset of questions. The trick would be defining the common set of paramters (across question types) that can be edited.

I think we should be able to come up with 2 solutions here that addresses the problem:

1. A print to pdf option on the Thank You page.
2. An version of the PDF going to the survey administrator (instead of the HTML email) that goes out - Automatically.

The PDF version will satisfy govt. and university archival standards. You can then create a separate email account to archive all the data in PDF format to satisfy the archival requirement.

I agree - The original requirement is to allow an easy model for users to switch surveys and perform the same functional task. (eg. Creating a banner table report, editing a Question etc.)

The way the system functions is to have an "Active" survey at a given time. We need to have a model in place that allows the user to change the active survey within 1 (or a maximum of 2) clicks and more importantly _retain_ context.

Vivek Bhaskaran

How about having the respondent get "Combined" ID - [SURVEY-ID]-[RESPONSE-ID]
That way you know the survey ID and know which survey the response came from.

Do we envision the categories to be even visible to the "regular" users? Is this the same as "hidden" categories?
Vivek Bhaskaran
07/03/2008
Yes - I think this makes a lot of sense and has been in the back-burner for quite some time.
Vivek Bhaskaran
07/01/2008
Well - What we really need is a "categorization" model -- A list of items categorized by an arbitrary header...
Vivek Bhaskaran

Popup invitations are a little different than other systems. In the past we've received many complaints who report that popups are appearing on the website and the source of the popup was another website (i.e - QuestionPro)

We know that this is different, but this is by design. The initial popup is really an inline floating div (not a separate window.) - this is part of the reason why we need to make sure that the end users know that QuestionPro is supplying and collecting that information.

We want to make it clear that QuestionPro is indeed the source of the popup. There are some legal issues also involved here and we are not likely to change this anytime.

Owww - nice - Yeah - Love it. We added in the option of _anyone_ uploading attachments to an idea (Images/pdfs etc.) but did not think about the tagging aspect (I guess you can call this crowdsourcing your tagging!)

We'll roll this in as part of our tagging update along with the other enhancements earlier.

Thanks RobertS!!
